Thai Visas - Non Immigrant Visa Category O-A

Retirement Visa Category (O-A)
This visa is intended for people of at least 50 years of age who wish to stay in Thailand for an extended period and who will not be employed during their stay. Employment is strictly prohibited to holders of this visa. This visa is valid for one year but can be renewed each year for an indefinite period of time. The fee is 2,000 Baht for a single entry visa or 5,000 Baht for a multiple-entry visa. It should be noted that if the holders of single entry visas leave the country without first obtaining a re-entry permit their category O-A visa will be voided. Dependents of category O-A visas who are not themselves eligible for an O-A visa may be considered for entry under a category O visa.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. They must be at least 50 years of age at the time of submitting their application;
2. They must not otherwise be prohibited from entering Thailand;
3. They must not have a criminal record in Thailand or their home country;
4. They must be a national of the country where they submit their application; and
5. They must not have any of the following diseases: Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, elephantiasis or third stage syphilis.
Required Documents
1. Completed T.M. 7 application form T.M. 7
2. One 4x6 cm. photograph
3. Appropriate Visa Fee. (BSA Law will prepare application for signature of applicant)
Photocopy of first page and visa page of passport (signed by applicant) (original passport must be presented at the time of application)*
4. Photocopy of bank statement (passbook) from commercial bank in Thailand showing an account in the name of the applicant with a balance of at least Baht 800,000, open for at least 90 days (signed by applicant)**
5. Letter from commercial bank in Thailand certifying the account described under No. 3**
6. Letter from the Embassy or Consulate certifying that the applicant receives regular pension, social security or similar income from abroad in an amount of not less than Baht 65,000 per month***
7. Evidence certifying the regular receipt of income under No. 5 (signed by the applicant)***
8. Medical certificate issued by hospital or clinic certifying the applicant is in reasonable health and is free form the diseases mentioned in the Eligibility section above.
* Should be Non-Immigrant "O" visa. If other visa type, please advise BSA Law
** Required only for applications based on availability of funds in Thailand
*** Required only for applications based on regular income from abroad

Maintaining Your Category O-A Visa

90 days after arriving in Thailand, and every subsequent 90 days, the holder must send a report to the local immigration officer containing the following information:

1. A completed Tor Mor 47 report;
2. A copy of your passport and latest visa arrival stamp;
3. A copy of the previous receipt of acknowledgment*; and
4. A self-addressed, stamped envelope.
*the Immigration Bureau will issue this receipt with the visa and each subsequent time you report to the Immigration office.
