Thai Work Permit, Thai Visas

Non-Immigrant Visa Category ED
Overview

Those who are coming to Thailand in order to study, participate in a work study or observation tour, attend a project or seminar, or study as a foreign Buddhist monk, must obtain a Non-immigrant category ED visa, also called an educational visa. This visa is valid for 90 days, however upon arrival holders of the 90 day visa are entitled to apply for a one-year visa. As with other non-immigrant visas, holders of the ED visa must register their address every 90 days with Immigration. These visas will almost invariably be single-entry and holders will have to apply for re-entry permits if they plan to leave Thailand during their stay.

Required Documents

Applicants for the Educational visa must present the following documents:

1. Acceptance letter from the school or university;
2. An official letter from the head of the relevant department requesting a visa on behalf of the applicant; and
3. A photocopy of the applicant's passport (valid for 18 months).
Those attending a private school or university must also provide the following additional information:
1. The school or university's registration papers, certifying that they are an accredited institution; and
2. The rector, principal or administrator's license or letter of appointment.
